Collecting Loss Co-Creators
"...My last memories of her are of birds singing quietly out the window,
the smell of gardenia, and blue."
In 2007, over 100 people contributed to a community arts project called Collecting Loss: Weaving Threads of Memory. Each person donated clothing that belonged to their deceased loved ones and the stories this clothing evoked to form the foundation for a public art memorial exhibit of textile pieces, audio recordings, photographs and print.
This book bears witness to what can happen when memories are collected, transformed and given a place to gather in living, breathing form.
Buy the book at: http://www.blurb.ca/bookstore/detail/3678982.
Proceeds will be reinvested to bring this project to more communities.
